Over the past three years, personal development and I have become what my youngest used to call “BFFs.”
I read at least a book a week. I watch videos that I find interesting, helpful, or just plain inspiring. And of course, there are my monthly phone calls with the one and only, John C. Maxwell.
Now I’ve decided to start sharing some of my personal development favorites with you! In case you’re looking for more ways to grow personally, spiritually, or professionally.
This week is another book. Now, when I’m reading for growth, I like to read through the entire book once, to get an overall feel for it, and make note of what really interests or speaks to me. Then I read through it a second time, making notes, highlighting passages, and paying special attention to those things that caught my eye the first time around.
You’re Loved No Matter What by Holley Gerth is a bit of a departure for me when it comes to personal development reading.
In the past, I’ve leaned toward time management, goal setting, leadership, and books along those lines. This time around though, I chose one about self-esteem. Also, those other books leave faith out of the equation. Ms. Gerth, though, writes from her spirituality and if you’re not a person of faith don’t let that scare you away from this book. She’s very gentle with it.
I’ll admit it took me longer to get through my first read of this one because there were parts that literally made me say “wow” and put the book down for a day or two. Just so I could absorb what I’d just read and the impact it had on my thinking. I think the part where she tells the reader to “stop apologizing for who you are” was especially impactful.
This is definitely one of my top favorites now.
