Marriages have the “Seven Year Itch.”
Marathons have the Mile 20 wall.
My workouts have the Six Week Slump.
It’s at this stage in the game where, in the past, I’ve given up. Conked out. Turned the alarm off and went back to sleep. Hit the Gluten-Free Oreo package like my dog on a package of bacon.
I wanted this week six to be different. And for the most part, it was. I powered through the overwhelming urge to give up and go to sleep.
To skip a workout and catch a few extra ZZZs.
To tear into a package of Oreos … oh, wait. I sort of did do this one.
But the important thing is, I made it through week six without missing a workout day! I managed to find the motivation to get up and go. And there may have been a Donkey Workout or two in there, but I got through them without injury.
Here are a few ways I forced, cajoled, shamed or encouraged myself to do it.
- Watched my oldest son power his way through his Body Beast workout for the day. If he can do that, I can get my lazy butt to the weights and lift!
- Told myself “Tomorrow is a running day!” Because, honestly, I’d rather run than do any other workout. Running the next day was my reward for lifting those darn weights.
- Checking in with the Writer’s Fitness Plan group, and the other fitness groups I belong to. Nothing spurs you on like encouragement from like-minded people
- Mostly though, what got me up and going, was you guys!
It’s true. You may be a little shy about commenting, but I can see you’ve been visiting and reading and honestly, that’s the best motivation! I can’t let you guys down! You guys inspire me to keep going.
So, thank you. Thank you for helping me beat my six week slump. Here’s to my first Week Seven!
It’s such a great feeling to inspire as well as be inspired. Because I wholeheartedly believe this, the next five people who join the Writer’s Fitness Plan Team with a Club Membership get a FREE sample of Shakeology to try. (Your choice of flavors). And the next two people who join my team as a “Coach”, with a Shakeology Home Direct order, get the free Shakeology sample as well as a “Shaker Cup” to drink it from!
