The standing desk has become my new best friend at work.
I was doing some light reading on the Cornell University website (ok, it’s not all that light, but I was curious about the pros/cons of standing vs. sitting at work), and it turns out, whether you’re fit and healthy or more of a couch potato (this would be me, though I’m trying to change), sitting for long periods can have bad effects on you.
Plus, according to this research article, standing burns “about 20% more calories” than sitting.
Sign me up.
But standing all day can be darn tiring, too. As a former food service and hospitality guru (I worked front desk here, and it was awesome), I know that very well.
So the awesome people I work for got me a nifty contraption called a “Sit-Stand Workstation.”
Basically, the thing slides up and down so you can stand, then sit when you get tired.
I built myself up to standing the majority of my workday (when I’m not sitting in meetings).
And according to this neat calculator, for my weight, if I stand all day, I can burn an extra 330 calories.
Just for standing!
Not. Shabby. At. All.
