Between a new roof, a new air conditioner, and a Beagle that likes to stick one paw in the grave and smack the Grim Reaper in the face, 2014 was a rough financial year. So the husband and I picked up a copy of Dave Ramsey’s “Total Money Makeover” and are working our way toward a better financial 2015.
But while diving into the book, there was one sentence about squirrelling away cash in a jar that made me pause and think, “Huh. That could be fun!”
So I have a fun little money-saving challenge going for us to try. You game?
Step 1. Pick a length of time (I’ll go with 3 months).
Step 2. Pick a denomination of money (I choose $5 bills).
Every time you receive a $5 bill (or whichever denomination you chose) as change, stick it in a box or jar. Don’t dip into that for anything (barring a true emergency, of course) for the entire time you chose in step one.
At the end of the time limit (3 months for me), count out how much you saved. And stick it in the bank! Take your significant other on a date! Or put it back in the jar and start over, adding to it for the next 3 months.
Ok, who’s going to try it? How long and which denomination are you going with?
