Over the past three years, personal development and I have become what my youngest used to call “BFFs.”
I read at least a book a week. I watch videos that I find interesting, helpful, or just plain inspiring. And of course, there are my monthly phone calls with the one and only, John C. Maxwell.
Now I’ve decided to start sharing some of my personal development favorites with you! In case you’re looking for more ways to grow personally, spiritually, or professionally.
This week’s book is one I’ve read through numerous times. And marked up a lot. It’s No Excuses! The Power of Self-Discipline by Brian Tracy.
Now, I like to read through the entire book once, to get an overall feel for it, and make note of what really interests or speaks to me. Then I read through it a second time, making notes, highlighting passages, and paying special attention to those things that caught my eye the first time around.
My copy of No Excuses has been heavily marked up. It’s twenty-one, info-filled chapters of how to apply self-discipline to all aspects of your life, from personal success and responsibility to health, fitness, and parenting.
The part that I’ve been identifying with the most recently is the chapter on problem solving. The “Nine-step method for solving problems effectively” is actually printed out and hanging on my wall at work. I use it at least weekly (I’m an IT manager by day – problems big and small happen regularly. Because technology is fickle).
Many of the chapters apply to my daily life and I’ve referred to this book so often, some of the pages are coming loose.
Do you have a favorite way to grow yourself personally? Videos, podcasts, books? Feel free to share them here or on our Facebook page. With my one book per week reading list, I’m always on the lookout for new books to read!
