This is the only way, for me, to make the changes I want to make in my life and reach my goals. So what’s my current dream / goal?
To run the Turkey Trot 10K this November.
6 miles may seem like an odd goal for a former marathoner to have, but the key word there is “former.” I ran my last marathon in 2010. Sure, I stumbled through a half-marathon in 2013, but that was a half-assed attempt and a painful experience.
For all intents and purposes, aside from some half-hearted attempts here and there, I’d given up running after 2010. I’d gained some heavy physical, mental, and emotional baggage that I’d associated with my favorite sport and my sport, athleticism, and health have suffered for it long enough.
I dream of running. I get jealous when I see other runners out doing their running thing. So, it’s time to suck it up and train!
And speaking of suck, starting from scratch really does! (So, don’t give up on your goals and have to start over again.)
Goal Busting Tools
Here are a few things I’m using to help me out:
Asics’ Kayano Gel 22 running shoes. I won’t say they feel like the hands of angels cradling my feet … but they’re close.
5K to 10K Pro by Guy Hoffman for the training plan.
Runtastic Pro for pace and distance tracking (and training plans).
The Rock Clock – because it’s funny.
22 Hard Corps for the short, strength building exercises. It’s not that I’m lazy; I just have a short attention span right now. 🙂
And when I’m done with this goal, I’m going to take what I’ve learned and apply it to my next one!
What dream are you working toward achieving now? And do you have any fun apps / books to share? 🙂
