Over the past three years, personal development and I have become what my youngest used to call “BFFs.”
I read at least a book a week. I watch videos that I find interesting, helpful, or just plain inspiring. And of course, there are my monthly phone calls with the one and only, John C. Maxwell.
Now I’ve decided to start sharing some of my personal development favorites with you! In case you’re looking for more ways to grow personally, spiritually, or professionally.
This week is another book. Now, when I’m reading for growth, I like to read through the entire book once, to get an overall feel for it, and make note of what really interests or speaks to me. Then I read through it a second time, making notes, highlighting passages, and paying special attention to those things that caught my eye the first time around.
I’m reading “Do Over: Rescue Monday, Reinvent Your Work, and Never Get Stuck,” by Jon Acuff not as a way to change my job, but as a way to change my attitude over all.
Plus, his books are just fun to read.
It’s actually hard to pick a “favorite” chapter. They’re all so filled with “wow, I didn’t think of it like that” kind of moments. I will say that this read through, I especially liked the entire first section – Investing in Relationships.
Everything we do in life involves relating to other people. In chapter four, he gives you advice on how to relate to everyone from your advocates, to your friends, to your worst career foes. For me, it was fascinating.
How about you? Do you have a favorite way to grow yourself personally? Videos, podcasts, books? Feel free to share them here or on our Facebook page. With my one book per week reading goal this year, I’m always on the lookout for new books to read!
